The Teaching of Maths

Ms Mayo oversees the teaching of maths across the school. Maths is a key priority area for the school. Children work from the school long term plan on age related tasks-basic, advanced and deep. Children move rapidly on to advanced and deep tasks when they have mastered the basic skills they need to completed reasoning tasks using the knowledge and skills they have learnt. Children regularly work on their basic number skills so that this does not slow down their ability to complete tasks.

The school is the teaching school for Hull and East Riding for the training of teachers to deliver the Numbers Count Programme. Paula Claughton is the Lead trainer for the area.  She also trains teaching assistants to deliver a number of quality interventions such as Success@arithmetic.

All teaching assistants are trained to deliver a maths intervention. Children will access quality first teaching.  If children need extra support teachers will direct teaching assistants to give that extra support.
